Queen of Domesticity

She was queen of pitter patter
Queen of hugs and all that matters
Of grocery carts and dying eggs
Of picture frames and hide-n-seek games

Queen of tummy aches and tired laughter
Pushing swings and running after
Of stretch marks and elasticity
She was queen of domesticity

She labored two jobs to fill the coffers
She was queen of loose change and too few dollars
Of torn window screens and leaky faucets
Surreptitiously the subject of neighborhood gossip

Queen of running late and early hours
Sleepless nights and imaginary powers
To retrieve wayward dreams from beyond
With a simple wave of her magic wand

She dreamed of high heels and short black dresses
Yet returned each day to ungodly messes
For she was queen of unsung songs
Queen of all that could go wrong

Once she dreamed of white gowns and throwing rice
Yet being alone so long she never learned to play nice
So she politely declined his offer of a ring
For what it’s worth she dreamed of being king

Open Window

Years pressed deep down under the thumb
I crawl out slowly hand against the sun
Twenty years internment
Is enough for anyone

The fumes of my drunk captor
Held me by the throat
I lost my ears, my eyes, my soul, my voice
Each second survived became my drink of choice

Such a pittance is no reward
Living one hour at a time
So I leap through to tomorrow
My song my words my saving rhyme

Grab my hand why don’t you follow
Forgive forget and gather round
The open window whoops and hollers
I’ll race you to that sound

Indigo

You see the trap before it’s set
You’re certain we all reap what we sow
You see the masses for what they are
All I see is indigo

Blame the adult for his childhood
Turn a blind eye to all his woe
Come one come all don’t miss the show
Behind the screen breathes indigo

He washed her feet, kneeling down low
Holy lips kissed the leper’s sores
Drop the rock read the writing scratched in the dirt
Lines of indigo shoot out from the open heart

All That Glitters

You read my lines of verse
Your head begins to reel
The meanings all disperse
Blue is blue, it isn’t teal
Enough with rhymes
C’mon get real

I fashion words into verse
Hammering a beat
The look, the sound, the feel
Oy, my head begins to reel

Sifting through the dirt for gold
We clamber for a crumb
All that glitters remains untold
Chasing down the drum

No Time

With God there is no time
If I may be so bold
Even now does not exist
As we fritter away the hours, forever unfolds

A prayer is never too late
By design there is no fate
The Greatest Story trumps history
The Red Sea parts continuously

Black holes swallow up the seconds
All is now as was before
Behold, the paradox beckons
Midnight echoes at the core
