Lesson Learned

I held on tightly till my fingers
Warped from red to white.
The object burst then showered down
Like fireworks at night.
I searched the scant debris
Now scattered by my feet
As a baffled novice splashes
Through ripples of deceit.
Like Lazarus, the lesson learned
Stung every ear that heard.
To have and hold all that you treasure
Unto God’s hands be transferred.
